Obviously this comes from the WTF?! Department of brahsome com LLC but I have been out of town recently and haven’t posted in a while. and in my travels I have been listening to a lot of music. so this is what you get.
I’ve been doing some thinking recently and decided that I would share this little tidbit of information with our phans and readers.
Rod Stewart hasn’t always been a total douchebag.
Granted his pretty boy haircuts sequined outfits and over all jackassery are hard to over look but there were days (years even) that Senor Stewart was a major player in the development of what the kids call ‘rock and roll’. and he certainly smashed lots and lots of extremely hot box.
Before he was completely ripping off Dylan with his
(he successfully argued in court that his is a different song…riiiiight) and crooning to the mini-van driving soccer moms. Stewart was paving the way for heady lead singers like Chris Robinson and Eddie Vedder.
Calling bullshit? Take the jump and I’ll try to prove my point.
State’s Evidence Exhibit A:An early ‘jamband.’ This is a youtube of Rod during his stint as the lead singer for
dissolved when Steve Marriott left to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton and Rod left
If you’re not familiar with
let me introduce you to them as it’s a pretty salty line-up: Ron Wood (guitar - Rod’s boy from tJBG would later join the Rolling Stones). Ronnie Lane (bass). Ian McLagan (piano - would later tour/play with the Rolling Stones. Bob Dylan the Boss and married Keith Moon’s wife) and Kenny Jones (drummer - replaced Keith Moon as the drummer for The Who following Moon’s death)
State’s Evidence Exhibit B:Another tune from Faces this one from ‘72. I’m pretty sure Chris Robinson watched these videos before going to bed each night.
State’s Evidence Exhibit C:The Jeff Beck Group (formed in 1967 by ex-Yardbirds guitarist Jeff Beck) playing ‘You Shook Me’ at the Fillmore West a year before Led Zeppelin recorded it. Jimmy Page spent a lot of time back stage following the Jeff Beck Group and used these experiences as the motivation behind forming Led Zeppelin.
State’s Evidence Exhibit D:Rod using his pipes. The video footage isn’t great but this is The Jeff Beck Group in 1968 and shows that Rod had the potential to be a true rock ‘n’ roll badass. I’m not sure whether it was too much cocaine or disco or what but something got Rod off track…this proves what could have been.
State’s Evidence Exhibit E:Just piling it on now tJBG rocking a ‘Shape of Things,’ a Yardbirds tune.
So there you have it. My attempt to Youtube you into believing that Rod Stewart was once a legitimate part of rock ‘n’ roll. The guy shared the stage with some great musicians who inspired a generation of future rockers. He may be a total dbag now but at one time. Rod Stewart was a legetimate rock star. Who didn’t suck ass.
While it’s obvious you put alot of time and thought into this. I’m gonna have to go ahead and heartily disagree. I think this is a case of someone trying to be cool by association. Like you know when you see 4 busted-ass girls and one hot girl with them and you’re all like “Damn she’s hot but there must be something wrong with her because otherwise why would she be hanging out with all those ugly bitches?” Except this is the exact opposite. Rod Stewart was the ugly girl with all the hotties who people said was nice and had a sense of humor.
i stand probably somewhere between you and stamos.
the guy definitely had pipes and worked with talent but in hindsight the clapping at the beginning of the first two vids and the scarf wearing in the last vid were gigantic red flags that this guy was a bag.
hard to rock with a scarf on especially circa 1970.
The Faces kick tons of ass. I would have filled you in earlier but I just assumed people knew.
